Tips to Enhance your PC Security

1.Check the Windows Update. Windows Me, 2000, and XP users can configure automatic updates. Click the Automatic Updates tab in the System Control Panel and choose the appropriate options.
2. Install a good anti-virus program and update it regularly. Antivirus software without updates is of no use to you.
3. Install personal firewall. SyGate (http://www.sygate.com/) and ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/) offer free versions.
4. Install anti-spyware (anti-virus with built-in anti-spyware is a good choice).
5. Use strong passwords and change them periodically. Passwords must contain at least seven characters; use letters and numbers and at least one symbol. A decent example is f8izKro # l. This will make it difficult for anyone to access your accounts.
6. If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express, use the current version or one with the Outlook Security Update installed. The update and the current hotfixes correct many security vulnerabilities.
7. Be skeptical of things on the Internet. Do not assume blindly that an email from a particular person is actually from that person because it is possible to send a fake email.
8. Verify the Versign SSL certificate (or logo) before making any e-commerce transactions (credit card transaction) with the Web site.
9. Do not disable the automatic protection feature on your antivirus software. If your antivirus program does not have the automatic protection feature, examine the files manually before you perform them.
10. Do not give your passwords to anyone at any time, even if the person claims that it is "support".
